Catalant Adds Shirley Sperling Paley as General Counsel
Paley brings more than fifteen years of legal expertise to the company
BOSTON – October 11, 2016 –Catalant, the leading technology platform for business expertise, announced today that Shirley Sperling Paley will join the company as general counsel. Paley will be responsible for negotiating client agreements and supporting the company’s legal needs as it continues to grow its customer base across new industry verticals and global markets.
“For many of our Fortune 1000 clients, partnering with Catalant is the first time they’ve used a dynamic talent solution. Guiding clients through this procurement process requires a nuanced understanding of key topics, including intellectual property and the software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform. Shirley not only holds extensive experience within these categories, but has supported such issues both domestically and internationally,” said co-CEO Rob Biederman. “Shirley’s knowledge and expertise align well with Catalant’s long-term strategic goals, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
Paley previously served as the assistant general counsel and director of intellectual property for Demandware, now Salesforce Commerce Cloud, where she negotiated key technology and license agreements, developed patent and trademark portfolios, provided M&A counsel, managed complex litigation, and supported the legal needs of the human resources team across the US, EMEA and APAC. As part of her work, Paley led a Massachusetts-wide effort with the New England Venture Capital Association and the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council to pass state legislation to protect innovative companies from frivolous patent litigation.
Prior to her position at Demandware, Paley held roles at technology company Sonus Networks and law firm Goodwin Procter LLP. She also served as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Paley earned her J.D. from the prestigious New York University School of Law.
“What struck me first and foremost about Catalant was its culture; the team is passionate about enabling new ways of working and they’ve put a concerted emphasis on creating an environment in which teamwork and innovation are front and center,” said Paley. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to bring my skills and experiences to Catalant and to help advance the company’s vision for the future of work.”
Catalant officially rebranded in July of 2016. The rebrand, which came on the heels of a $22M Series C financing round led by General Catalyst Partners, reflects the company’s role in redefining how enterprises access top talent to solve critical challenges.
